'''Echoes of Lyhnn''' '''A One-Shot Adventure for 4-5 Characters of 5th Level''' '''Adventure Background''' The continent of Oerik, within the world of Greyhawk, is a tapestry woven from diverse cultures, ancient mysteries, and the echoes of empires long past. Among these echoes, the Empire of Lyhnn stands as a haunting reminder of ambition and destruction. Once a powerful Suel civilization, Lyhnn's legacy was shattered by the cataclysmic event known as the Great Cataclysm, an event that left the empire in ruins and its knowledge scattered to the winds. In the present day, the coastal town of Bellport finds itself caught in the crosscurrents of history. A stolen spellbook, rumored to contain the secrets of an ancient runestone network, has surfaced, promising instantaneous travel across vast distances. This network, a relic of Lyhnn's technological prowess, holds the potential to reshape the political landscape of the Flanaess. Unbeknownst to the PCs, this spellbook is already in their possession, a forgotten artifact from a previous adventure. The book details how to activate the runestone network, a system of ancient stones that were once used by the Empire of Lyhnn for rapid transit. However, the network is not merely a means of travel; it is a conduit through time itself. The PCs' journey begins in Bellport, a town on the verge of explosion. Patriarch Halldrem’s heavy handed rule, combined with the large orcish military presence, has created an unstable atmosphere. The PCs are staying at the Silver Swan, a clean and quiet tavern. They have been told about two other taverns, The Kings Coin, and the Obsidian Flask. The Obsidian Flask is where a magic item auction will be held. The late Lexana Brightshore, a Suel emissary operating under the guise of a merchant, was instrumental in the auction. However, she was killed by the PC's in a previous encounter. Now, her absence at the auction raises suspicions and provides the PCs with an opportunity to uncover her secrets. Lexana was a time traveler, and an agent of the long dead Empire of Lyhnn. These agents, aware of their presence in the past, are attempting to manipulate events to restore their empire. They are using the runestone network to travel through time, seeking to alter key moments in history and prevent the Great Cataclysm. The stolen spellbook, which the PCs acquired from a haunted mansion where a thief was waiting for a ship to Lyhnn, is the key to unlocking the runestone network. The PCs, unaware of the book's true nature, must unravel its secrets while navigating the intrigue of Bellport and the dangers of time travel. The PCs will find themselves drawn into a conflict that spans centuries, facing not only the thieves who seek the spellbook but also the agents of Lyhnn, who are determined to rewrite history. The fate of Greyhawk hangs in the balance, as the PCs must decide whether to protect the timeline or risk altering it forever.
