{{Session |campaign=Echos of Lyhnn |session_date=20 June 2025 |game_date=Morning, CY627 |synopsis=The party faces an avalanche and a frost giant ambush while heading north from Oakhaven. |summary= ==== Continued from [[Session 133 The Sage, the Suitor, and the Smashed Blacksmith]] ==== ==== A Treacherous Journey North ==== The faint light of dawn barely pierced the gloom of The Crag and Kettle as the adventurers from the previous night, still reeling from the whispers of Lexana Brightshores' survival, sought solace and rest. After a full, if slightly boisterous, night's sleep, the party bid Borin farewell and made their way to the Iron Hoof Stables. Berrick, the stable master, assured them their newly procured wagon would be ready shortly. [[File:stuck wagon.png|thumb|Stuck Wagon]] With the wagon prepared, the party debated their next move, ultimately deciding to head north, following the path of the previous night's caravan. Leia and Durmen joined them on the wagon, their heads already buried in books, continuing their scholarly discussions. They headed out of Oakhaven in the early afternoon, but as the day wore on, the weather grew increasingly colder and windier. Though the snow had stopped, the wind whipped up flurries, drastically reducing visibility to only about 100 feet. Their progress was slow and arduous. A sudden jolt sent the wagon careening as Ricfire lost control, ending up partially in a ditch. With a flex of his impressive pectorals, Aldran managed to lift the wagon back onto the road. Frustrated by Ricfire's driving, Balmaris took the reins. Despite the worsening conditions and poor visibility, the party pressed on. ==== Avalanche and Ambush ==== A few hours later, with dusk only two hours away, a low rumble echoed through the air. Alarmed, the party saw nothing until minutes later, when the side of the mountain to the east began to slide β an avalanche! They attempted to jump clear but failed. The two horses, still tethered to the now-overturned wagon, twisted violently, their legs flailing. As the party disembarked, peering through the blowing snow, a massive boulder slammed into the wagon, obliterating it into a shower of wooden fragments. Moments later, the chilling howl of wolves echoed from over the rise opposite the wrecked wagon. [[File:frost giant battle.png|thumb|Frost Giant Battle]] Another boulder whistled through the air, and finally, the party spotted their attacker: a frost giant, laughing maniacally from the crest of the hill. Three dire wolves charged down the slope, followed closely by the giant. A chaotic melee ensued. Aldran and Nail charged forward, while Ricfire attempted a sneak attack with his short bow, aiming for the giant's back. Balmaris and Durmen unleashed a barrage of firebolts and magic missiles. Aldran's Eldritch Blast connected with the giant, and Ricfire landed a crucial sneak attack. Ultimately, the giant fell, brought down by Durmen's magic missiles. All the while, the dire wolves circled and attacked, occasionally leaping in to tear at the party's flesh, but they too eventually succumbed to the group's relentless assault. |key_npcs= [[Leia]] }}
