Session Summary[edit source]

Synopsis[edit source]

The party defeats the assassins as the Barons envoy arrives

This Session[edit source]

Mourn identifies three guards, one on the roof, two at the gate, alert and looking for trouble because of the recent spell fire having caught the attention of those inside the coachhouse. As the guard on the roof takes notice of Galinndan and Meat concluding their fight with the assassin at the wheelwright shop, Mourn brings him down with a few well-placed arrows. He drops silently behind the walkway, unnoticed by the other guards outside.

Inside the coachhouse Horin attempts to stall the guards sitting at his table by ordering up another round. They debate amongst themselves the risk of not investigating or having another drink before their fear of being punished for dereliction of duty motivates them to head outside, Horin following closely behind them.

Outside Meat and Galanndinn deal with a darkness spell that has fouled their attempt to capture the assassin. The assassin bounds over the wall with a quick flourish, flipping them off in the process just as Meat and Galanndinn exit the sphere of darkness. Mourn attempts a quick shot but misses. Meat and Galanndinn attempt to follow over the wall. Mourn signals his intention to ambush any followers who leave the coach house in pursuit as he magically disappears back into the undergrowth.

Meat struggles to climb over the wall while Galanndinn executes a perfect acrobatic leap flips over the wall as Meat looks on in amazement. Landing on the exterior of the compound they surprise the assassin and initiate spell and melee combat ensues ending with the assassins death. Quickly searching the body they find its a Drow wearing a poorly fitted but serviceable disguise. Meat and Galanndinn drag the body into the woods to the south where Gallandinn turns it invisible. Attempting to avoid being spotted they they make their way around the compound before arriving back at the main gate where they convince the guards to let them pass.

At the coachhouse Horin blocks the doorway as the Red Company sergeant steps forward weapon in hand. The sergeant order the troops inside the common room to rush Horin who unleashes a flame strike upon the hapless man who vanishes in a column of blue fire. The remainder of the guards stop in their tracks as Horin orders them to stand down and swear allegiance to the party as their rightful rulers. "Take arms for Wanborne and your lives will be spared!" They briefly debate with Horin who offers assurances they will be treated fairly, before agreeing, albeit hesitantly to serve - as the Baron has a well deserved reputation for cruelty. Horin steps outside the building and meets up with Gallandinn, and Meat in the courtyard. Mourn remains concealed in the grove watching for signs of treachery.

Quickly discussing options they remember the wagon and its precious cargo. Gallandinn senses the children are both under some kind of heavy sleep spell that he's unable to identify. Horin says its not of divine or demonic origin but is equally uncertain about how to remove the effect. They close up the wagon and with some effort get it turned around and hitched up in preparation to depart. Nudging the horses forward they find their way blocked as a cloaked rider bursts through the main gate, rapidly dismounts, and announces loudly for all to hear "I am the personal envoy of Baron Dunthmore, bring forth the usurpers!"
