Synopsis[edit source]

Having defeated the Ice Devils, the party sought rest in a ruined cabin, only to be attacked by the vengeful mate of a giant they had previously slain. The grueling battle saw Durmen heroically take a lightning bolt to save a companion, but just as they claimed victory, a mysterious, cloaked figure assailed them with electrical magic before flying away to the northeast. This Session[edit source]

Continued from Session 136 Echoes of the Fallen Giant

The Aftermath and Unsettling Calm

The silence following the brutal conflict with the Yetis and Ice Devils was a heavy one. Exhausted and shaken, the party sought a crucial respite in the ruined cabin. As an act of solidarity, the **Albert cloak** was gifted to Leia. A small campfire was started, and the party managed to huddle for a desperate **three-hour rest**. In a grim but necessary task, the practical Durmen and Poision Poison Egon butchered the dead yeti, securing **50 pounds of yeti meat** to be stored in the Bag of Holding.

Their fragile calm was shattered when a disquieting presence was felt: a **Fey Eye**—a glowing, malevolent shard of light—drifted down the chimney, silently spying on their activity. As soon as the watcher was noticed, Aldran reacted instantly, springing after it. He burst out the front door and tracked the retreating creature, watching it disappear to the northeast and fade into the distance, a clear signal that they were still being watched by unseen, intelligent foes.

The Giant's Vengeance

All hopes of peace were obliterated when a massive **boulder crashed through the roof**, shattering the remaining shelter. A colossal **female giant**, the enraged spouse of a giant they had previously slain, had tracked them down and attacked with a grief-fueled fury.

The battle was immediate and desperate. Nail quickly cast **Hunter's Mark**, enhancing the party's ability to harm the massive foe. When a deadly **lightning bolt** streaked toward Leia, Durmen, still recovering from his previous near-death experience, performed a selfless act of heroism, leaping to intercept the blast and taking the brunt of the electrical strike.

Chaos descended as Balmaris’s attempts at counter-magic sputtered, resulting in him **fumbling twice in a row** and suffering the effects of failed spellcasting. Durmen also failed to land a retaliatory blow. Seeing their companions wounded, Nail's divine power rallied them, casting a powerful **Heal** upon the barbarian. While the party pushed uphill into brutal melee, Aldran's war cry faltered into a confused plea for guidance from his "uncle." Fighting through their wounds, they finally brought the giant to its knees, where Nail delivered the killing blow.

The Shadowy Threat

The respite was nonexistent. Upon the ridge line, Poison Egon and Aldran spotted a **shadowy figure shrouded in a dark cloak**. The wind whipped past the ominous figure as it launched **one final, calculated barrage of electrical lightning bolt attacks** on the party before melting into the tree line. Balmaris, now recovered enough to act, launched a lightning bolt of his own in retaliation, but the cloaked figure **leaped skyward and flew off to the northeast**, escaping pursuit.

The party was forced to retreat to their ruined shelter for another, vital **short rest** before they could consider their next move.

Loot and Forward March

After resting, they turned to the pragmatic task of searching the massive corpse of the giant. They removed the teeth from its head, gathering a **bag of teeth** for use as spell components. On its body, they discovered a valuable **Scroll of Polymorph**, an **ivory case containing 20 gold pieces**, another protective **Albert cloak**, and a bag of **dehydrated food** (which they noted could be of human origin). With the threat resolved and a few new resources gathered, the adventurers began their preparations to resume the pursuit of Lexana Brightshore.
