Wanborne has been besieged, captured, freed, and re occupied many times over the past decades. Most of the houses are in disrepair and occupied by troops moving through the area. The populace numbering less than 20 souls is cowed and generally of ill disposition towards anyone not from the town. (LE, NE)

Wanborn Village

On the northern route in and out of town.

Template:Dialog The corpse is that of Sir Keldic one of the Knights of the March hunted down by humanoids.

Prominent Locations[edit | edit source]

Before being occupied by the raiders the mill was quite prosperous as there are plentiful sheep in the hills. The previous owner was killed in a dispute over payment by Rugfar a half orc mercenary, and his skull placed in the window. The hole was created by boulder during a previous siege. Currently the mill is worked by eight human slaves. There are three hobgoblin guards and their leader Trozig. The rear of the mill is filled with looms and stacks of wool ready for shipment. The wool is worth between 600-1500GP depending on the market.

  • The boulder that made the hole in the roof is in the center of the room covered in wool.
  • One of the slaves knows about the history of the Keldic Family and if freed will mention they were once lords of the town who held the lands from here to the Ripper Mines. Sir Keldic was a member of the Knights of the March who was gathering resources to prepare an expedition to retake the Ripper Mines.

Relate the story of Sir Keldic

  • Keldic Village and the families fortified manor now in ruins lies about 30 miles to the East. His local residence is on the east side of town.

The chains once held prisoners, the bones are mostly picked clean bur remain partially attached. The smell comes from a small ghoul that is eating on the remnants that have fallen to the ground. It avoids contact and runs to the shadows.

  • A DC15 constitution save to avoid vomiting at the sight and smell.
  • A DC20 perception check will determine the body is female.
  • A DC25 investigation check will turn up a diamond earring worth 500-750GP. The earring once belonged to the wife of the towns beige lord Sir Keldic a Knights of the March . If found and returned to the Keldics family in Knurl they will honor the party who will receive 2 prestige points.
  • ADC25 perception check will identify there is a concealed entrance to the crypt under the center of the temple ruin.

If the party tampers with the rubble or otherwise significantly disturbs the area there is a 40% change the bone naga Zlithson will come to investigate. It will move up the tunnel and enter dramatically, erupting through the rubble. Zlithson is a young Naga and so it's as much curious (for an undead) as wary, and will not attack immediately but rather try to parlay and gain some insight about their intention. If attacked it will retaliate, starting with spells, then melee, once below 25% HP it will attempt to flee to the tunnels and rally support from the garrison at the North Wind Coach house. Its treasure consists of items looted from the crypts below the temple.

The naga will command the undead from the crypt to rise and attack anyone moving through the rubble.

The rubble is difficult terrain and anyone not carefully picking their way through must make a save vs DEX or fall through into a void. No damage will be taken but movement will be 1/2 until they free themself which takes a full round. Charactes falling into he rubble will benefit from partial concealment but all attacks transfer to their torso or head as they fall @ waist deep into the rubble.

A DC15 perception will note the tunnels are new additions (weeks to months old) and clearly of poor construction.

  • There are twelve rooms, each can be rented for 15SP a night.
  • Meals cost a few copper for soup, and a few silver for meat.

Brunze is tired and expecting problems, after all anyone coming through town is usually looking for trouble. His partner Denna knows quite a bit about the comings and goings of units in the area. She will reveal secret troop movement plans for 50+ GP. By the following morning she and Brunze will be gone if the PC's pay her to start over someplace safer.

The cellars have recently been connected by the hobgoblins via a via crudely built tunnel to the temple, mill, and main houses. The tunnel was intended to let the defenders move from house to house unseen if one of the Counts patrol came through.

The Herbalist is an older Flan male name Justinian, dressed in homespun clothing covered in dirt, he has silvery white hair and a short cropped beard in his middle 60's. For a small price he can mix up herbal remedies that mimic healing spells.

The house has long since been looted. Entry is dangerous due to the rotten floors. A DC 18 or higher agility check will be required every 20' moved in the building to avoid falling through the floor. DAM - 1D8 for each floor. The cellar is partially filled with water and of course poisonous snakes. There is a single barrel of Elvish wine worth 250GP.

The raiders are a mix of humanoids, nominally under control of the the Hobgoblin Rippers clan war chief Trozig the son of one of the Ripper Warlords Xobzag who is intent on expanding Ripper territory. Trozig is working with the priestess Yulanni to help him expand Ripper territory.

  • Most of the tents contain no stores or major items except the bell shaped tents which hold the pay-chests and instructions for the troops.

Four Flan humans are enslaved, three men and one woman. They relate the story of how they are enslaved either to work the mines or as food/sport for the humanoids. The eldest is Alain Paxton a mid 20's male and three younger siblings.

  • He wishes to become a mage or druid.
  • He knows of the meets between the Elves and the Flan at the standing stones outside of town.
  • He can relate the general story of Sir Keldic's battle with the Rippers and knows that prisoners are sent by Trozig back to the Rippers castle. If Keldics daughter Spohia is described he may recall she was in the last group sent east.
