ENCOUNTER TABLES[edit | edit source]

These tables are for wandering monsters in the snowy, mountainous region of the North Road beyond Oakhaven. Roll 2d10 once during each day of traveling. Encounters often reflect the heightened activity of Frost Barbarians in the area.

WILDERNESS - NORTH ROAD (OAKHAVEN AREA) - RANDOM ENCOUNTER TABLE

2-4 No encounter (heavy snowfall, thick fog, treacherous ice making travel difficult).
5 1d4 Arctic Foxes or Mountain Goats (flee if approached; scene setting).
6 1d6 Dire Wolves (Easy combat for a level 7-9 party).
7 1d2 Polar Bears (Medium combat).
8 1d4 Frost Barbarian Scouts (use Berserker stat block; wary; might observe the party or try to avoid direct confrontation).
9 1d2 Winter Wolves (Medium combat).
10 1d2 Yeti (Medium-Hard combat).
11 1d4 Ogres (Medium combat).
12 Frost Barbarian Patrol: 1 Veteran and 1d4 Tribal Warriors (Medium-Hard combat).
13 1d2 Ettins (Hard combat).
14 1 Hill Giant or 1 Stone Giant (Hard combat).
15 1 Remorhaz (regular size; Hard combat).
16 1 Young White Dragon (Hard-Deadly combat).
17 1d2 Frost Giants (Deadly combat).
18 Frost Barbarian Raiding Party: 1 Berserker + 1 Veteran + 1d6 Tribal Warriors (Deadly combat, good for a larger confrontation).
19 Plot Hook: An ancient, frozen elemental (e.g., a re-skinned Gargoyle or Earth Elemental as an "Ice Golem" or "Glacier Elemental") guarding a strange ruin or a hidden pass, possibly related to Elder Theon's warnings about extra-planar beings. (Hard-Deadly, unique encounter).
20 Major Threat / Lair Approach: A powerful Frost Barbarian Warlord (Warlord from Volo's Guide to Monsters) and 1d4 Berserkers OR the immediate approach to a well-defended barbarian stronghold/camp or a large-scale, ongoing ritual that might be related to the "book."
